MasterCook comes uses a number of different tools to provide additional functionality within the program. Some tools are available in two versions: one for 68000-based Macintosh systems, and one for Power Macintosh computers and other models which use the PowerPC processor. The installer has already selected the option which is applicable to your computer, but you may override this choice by clicking one or more of the checkboxes at the right. For example, if you're installing on an external hard disk that is shared by more than one computer, you should probably choose to install both sets of tools. (Please note that although PowerPC Macintosh systems can use the 68k tools, the reverse is not true.)
Cookbook Viewer
MasterCook now supports two ways of viewing cookbooks: list view and page view. The Cookbook Viewer Tool is required for page view to work; approximately one megabtye of additional disk space is required to install the tool and its associated layouts. MasterCook also requires more memory when the Cookbook Viewer is installed — please consult your MasterCook User's Guide for more information.
Recipe Mailer
If you have a direct TCP/IP connection to the Internet -- either via an ethernet network or a dial-up SLIP/PPP link -- you can use the Recipe Mailer tool to send recipes in electronic mail. The Recipe Mailer requires MacTCP or OpenTransport to be installed and configured properly before it will work.
